The Wellness Experiment
Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 06:33AM I wrote about a month ago about giving up caffeine and diet cokes. And surprisingly, I'm still on the wagon. I went off caffeine because it I was having trouble sleeping, specifically, if anything woke me up, I was lucky to go back to sleep in an hour. Falling asleep was never a problem. Tell me I can go to sleep and I'm out anywhere, anytime. Shawn tells me its a gift (he's an insomniac). I'm cold all the time so I guess we all have our things. I've experienced work related burnout 3 times in the past 12 years, and something I've noticed is that after each one it took longer to bounce back and took a lot less to get me to the same "must I get out of bed this morning?" state of mind. So this year has been the year of stress reduction. But I've discovered baby steps is the only way to get anywhere since the moment I contemplate any big change my minds starts screaming, "you want to do what? Have you seen your schedule? I'd like to know how you plan on fitting this in. Well, I'm not having anything to do with this. You are on your own." But if I make little changes, I sneak past my brain. So eliminating caffeine was step #2. Plus I read that coffee raises your cortisol levels which stress raises as well, so no more coffee decaf or otherwise. Step #1 was starting a regular yoga program which I've managed for the past 3 months. I'm not sure what step #3 will be, but I'll let you know when I figure it out.
