Garden Contemplations
Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 08:17PM So I’ve had a few months off from gardening, and I received the gardener’s toy seed catalog the other day. The result has been hours of contemplation and plans for expansion. Of course, expansion sounds like a grand idea when the ground is so frozen you can’t turn over a spade of dirt. It may not seem so fabulous in the hot, humid, and mosquito infested days of summer. (It’s really a shame that cold winters do nothing to inhibit the mosquito population.) I start to think about giving corn another chance (is this how abusive relationships start?). I think about how broccoli and spinach deserve another chance (30 days of rain would do in the most intrepid vegetable), what we eat that we aren’t currently growing (how hard are sweet potatoes to grow and more importantly, harvest?) and how much more I need to grow of certain things to be satisfied (so how many tomato plants do you have to grow before it becomes a sickness?). At least I know not to get carried away. ; )
